Boy Scout Troop 183 is located in northeast Ohio, and consists primarily of boys between the ages of 11 and 17. This group is broken into patrols that take part in troop campouts as well as some camporees and other campouts run by the council. Generally we attempt to participate in at least one campout or other major activity each month. Also, our group of older boys often take part in high adventure trips, the latest being a Philmont trip in July of 1998. In the past we have done some other large trip such as the Yorktown trip last year, among others.

The troop web page also contains information on other events either upcoming or past. You can also find a list of all of the boy scout requirements for every rank, and every merit badge.

The 2005 Annual Headwaters District Klondike was the first winter camping experience for four boys from our troop. Jacob, kyle, JR and Todd got their winter camping with temperatures in the mid 20's and events to keep them busy all day. The did very well with the events scoring 32 out of 40 possible and put together some very good lashings for their "Giant's Ladder".
They all got a chance to try out the black powder on the rifle range with Jacob getting more than the normal tries to shoot. With all of the shooting that day the black powder tends to foul the guns and it took about 6 or 7 mis-fires before he actually got a shot in.
The Klondike/Hamburger stew went well and we enjoyed a great meat loaf dinner in the dining hall. They boys bid on and won a new lantern for the troop and they each got a new headlamp at the auction. They must have been tired because when we got back to camp they just crawled in their tents and never came out till morning. They did talk for hours though!

The good news is they all had a good time and learned about winter camping!

Camp Stigwandish, Pop Corey Campsite 10/1-3/2004

Seven boys, three leaders and two fathers enjoyed a great fall weekend down by Mill Creek at the Pop Corey campsite! The weather was cool and definitely fall-like for the first troop campout of the new program year. Mr. Schmucker took us to the Archery Range and everyone had a chance to shoot and learn how to do it safely! It was great until the rain came and the temperature dropped.

We headed back to our campsite and had lunch while the rain continued when all of a sudden the sun popped out and it got warmer. We took of on a hike of the White Trail on the east end of camp and showed off the rugged and remote areas of camp. This was a good opportunity to work on map and compass and learn how to not get lost in the woods!

Dinner was foil dinners for those less creative and a great dutch oven stew for those more adventurous. All in all a good weekend in the woods and we even got some requirements signed off!

Here we are at Summer Camp 2004!

9:49 PM - Updated Requirements - Scott
I have updated some of the rank advancement requirements with changes which have occured within the past few years (2001-2003). These changes should be reflected within our Requirements page.

11:30 PM - Gettysburg Trip - Scott
This past weekend Troop 183 took part in an amazing trip to Gettysburg, PA. Hopefully I will put up a larger archive of photos in the near future, but for now I have posted a group picture in front of the Virginia Memorial along Seminary Ridge. I have also posted an image that includes only the group and not the statue.

1:54 PM - Another Eagle Scout! - Scott
It seems that the only thing we post around here is congratulatory messages to scouts who have achieved the Eagle Rank...one would think that is all we do...
The latest Eagle within Troop 183 is Tony, who completed his board of review last week. Congratulations Tony! Many hard hours (and hard years) of work went into it, and he truly earned this wonderful accomplishment.
Also, however, I wanted to mention just how sudden a rush of Eagle Scouts this past year or so has been. From the time I first joined the troop in 5th grade, to the time I turned 17, about a year and a half ago, I saw a grand total of one Eagle Scout rank attained within Troop 183. We were a young troop, but we had a dedicated group of scouts, who, for the most part, have stuck together through all of these years. There are other members of the troop who could probably provide more accurate information as to how long it has been since we saw any more than a single Eagle Scout involved in the troop, but in this past year we have actually seen five: Kenny, Dave, Scott, Chris, and now Tony. All members of that once young group of scouts who are now completing their years as Scouts, turning 18, and returning as leaders. Of course, college, career, and other elements of life seem to take so much time away from us these days, but as an Assistant Scoutmaster now, I can say that I plan to see many more years with Troop 183, and would like to wish the best of luck to our new, younger group of upcoming scouts who are just now beginning to work on the first of their rank advancements, and who will be attending their first Klondike campout in another week. May Scouting provide them with as many wonderful experiences, opportunities and memories as it has me.

2:55 PM - Eagle Scouts - Steve
Congratulations to Troop 183's newest Eagle Scouts: Scott Schmucker and Chris Hanus. We are all looking forward to formal presentations of their awards at their court of honors. Congratulations again to Scott and Chris.

6:59 PM - Summercamp 2000 - Steve
Last summercamp went over very well. The scouts worked hard and were very successful in reaching everything they were working for. Also, a last minute finishing up of an Eagle Project by Scout Scott. Hopefully everything goes through Nationals and we have a new Eagle Scout to congradulate in the near future.

5:52 PM - Summer Camp 2000 - Scott
With a crew that would be composed of mostly leaders by Friday, Troop 183 recently took part in their year 2000 Summer Camp trip at Camp Stigwandish. I have scanned the group picture from camp and added it to the Summer Camp Photos page of this site.

9:12 PM - Eagle Scouts - Scott
Congratulations to Dave and Kenny, the two newest Eagle Scouts of Troop 183. The Eagle courts of honor for these two scouts were held the past two weeks, and each went wonderfully. Congratulations again to both Kenny and Dave.
